How do I book a chauffeur service in Dublin?

Most Dublin bookings are one of four kinds: the airport run to the Docklands or Ballsbridge, a day of meetings by the hour, a transfer out to a country house hotel or golf resort, or a long intercity run to Belfast, Galway or Cork. Each one is a normal booking. What does the fixed fare include?
Dublin has two road charges that surprise visitors:
- The Dublin Port Tunnel, the quickest route between the airport and the Docklands, is tolled. In 2026 the city-bound toll for cars is €14 on weekday mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. and €3.50 at most other times, according to the tunnel operator.
- The M50 motorway has a barrier-free toll between junctions 6 and 7 on the west side of the city, paid electronically. Trips to Kildare, the west or the south-west often cross it.
The fare also covers waiting of 60 minutes from landing on international flights and 30 minutes on domestic flights (15 minutes at hotels and offices), and child seats on request. Airport parking at pickup and gratuity are added to the booking at actual cost. Waiting beyond the allowance is charged in 15-minute blocks. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or on a no-show. Planning ranges are on rates.
Dublin Airport: Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and where pickup happens
Dublin Airport is about 10 km north of the city centre, off the M1. It has two terminals facing each other across a short walk. Terminal 1 handles many European short-haul flights; Terminal 2 is used by most transatlantic and long-haul services, and it is where the United States preclearance facility is located. Airlines occasionally move between terminals, so the booking engine asks for the flight number and checks the terminal.

Arrival times into Dublin cluster in two waves: the early-morning transatlantic bank from North America, and the afternoon and evening European flights. On a busy morning, passport control can take a while, especially for non-EU passport holders. Flight tracking and 60 minutes of included waiting from the actual landing time absorb most of that.
Flying to the United States: preclearance at Dublin
Dublin is one of the few airports outside North America with full US Customs and Border Protection preclearance. Passengers on direct flights to the United States clear US immigration, customs and agriculture checks in Terminal 2 before boarding, then arrive in the US as if on a domestic flight. For a departure booking, that changes how early you should leave the hotel. You pass Irish airport security, then the preclearance hall, before reaching the gate, and airlines ask US-bound passengers to allow more time than for a European flight. Business districts, hotels and venues
- Docklands and Grand Canal Dock: the International Financial Services Centre on the north quays and the tech offices around Grand Canal Square, often called Silicon Docks. The Convention Centre Dublin stands at Spencer Dock, and the 3Arena is a few hundred metres east.
- St Stephen's Green and the Georgian core: Merrion Square, Fitzwilliam Square and government offices, with hotels such as The Shelbourne, The Merrion and The Westbury nearby.

The Dublin year by month
Event dates change each year, so confirm with the organisers. The usual pattern:
- February and March: Six Nations rugby at the Aviva Stadium brings visiting supporters in large numbers.
- March: St Patrick's Festival, with the parade on or around 17 March and road closures across the centre.
- June: Bloomsday on 16 June and the start of the summer concert season at Croke Park, the Aviva and Marlay Park.
- July to September: the All-Ireland hurling and football finals at Croke Park.
- August: the Dublin Horse Show at the RDS in Ballsbridge.
- September and October: the Dublin Theatre Festival and the Dublin Marathon in late October.

Local driving realities
Ireland drives on the left, and so do our vehicles. Central Dublin has bus corridors, cycle lanes and a steadily widening set of restrictions on private cars through College Green and the quays, which make some direct routes unavailable. Chauffeurs know where they can set down legally in the Georgian core, which matters when your hotel is on a square with no forecourt. Peak congestion is heavy on the M50 and the city approaches, so the engine's timing assumes realistic rather than best-case journeys.
Dublin Port, north of the Liffey mouth, handles ferries to Holyhead and Liverpool and a growing cruise schedule, with some ships also calling at Dún Laoghaire. For port transfers, give the ship name and berth when booking. The main rail stations are Heuston, for Cork, Galway, Limerick and Kerry, and Connolly, for the Enterprise service to Belfast.
Weather and seasons
Dublin's weather is mild but changeable, and rain is frequent in every month. That matters more than it sounds: a wet Friday evening slows the quays and the M50 noticeably, and outdoor queues for taxis at the airport and after concerts get long. Ireland is small enough that long transfers by car are practical. Common intercity transfers from central Dublin:

- Galway: about 210 km, 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes on the M4 and M6.
- Kilkenny: about 125 km, 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 45 minutes.
- Newgrange and the Boyne Valley: about 50 km, 45 minutes to an hour.
- Glendalough: about 55 km, around an hour.
- Adare Manor, County Limerick: about 210 km, around 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes.

Arrival formalities for Ireland
Ireland is in the EU but not in the Schengen area, so the EU Entry/Exit System and the future ETIAS authorisation do not apply to trips into Ireland. Non-EU visitors go through Irish immigration at the airport; the Irish Immigration Service sets the rules and visa requirements.
Ireland and the United Kingdom share the Common Travel Area. Irish citizens can move freely between them. Most other visitors heading from Dublin to Northern Ireland need to meet UK entry rules, including the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation for visa-exempt nationalities, even though there are no routine checks on the land border. Non-Irish nationals who are legally resident in Ireland and do not normally need a UK visa are exempt from the ETA when travelling from within the Common Travel Area.
