Which car should you book in Long Beach?

LGB: a small airport with a historic terminal
Long Beach Airport is about 5 miles northeast of downtown. The 1941 terminal building, with its Streamline Moderne facade, anchors a compact complex where passengers board by ramp or stairs rather than jet bridges. Flights are domestic, including Hawaii. Standard pickup is curbside outside baggage claim, in the area the airport designates for pre-arranged commercial vehicles; app rides use a separate outer-curb zone. Flying into LAX or John Wayne instead
International travellers usually arrive at LAX, about 20 miles northwest. Allow 30 to 60 minutes via the I-405 or I-105 and I-710, more on a weekday evening. The chauffeur collects at the terminal curb on the Arrivals level, not the LAX-it lot. John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County is about 20 miles southeast, typically 25 to 45 minutes.
Cruise day: Long Beach and San Pedro terminals
The Long Beach Cruise Terminal sits in the dome beside the Queen Mary, a few minutes from downtown hotels. Embarkation traffic peaks in the late morning; we time the drop to your boarding window and, on disembarkation day, the car meets you at the terminal's pre-arranged pickup lot once you have cleared the ship. Some lines sail instead from the World Cruise Center at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, about 8 miles west across the bridges, usually 15 to 25 minutes. Port of Long Beach crew changes
The Port of Long Beach, next to the Port of Los Angeles, forms the largest container gateway in the United States. Crew moves between berths on Pier J, Pier T or the Middle Harbor and LAX are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing, with pickups at the gate or the point the ship's agent designates. Neighbourhoods and waterfront districts
Downtown runs from Pine Avenue to the East Village Arts District, with Shoreline Village and Rainbow Harbor on the water. Belmont Shore's 2nd Street and the canals of Naples lie to the east. Bixby Knolls and Signal Hill, an independent city surrounded by Long Beach, sit north. California State University, Long Beach is near the Los Alamitos traffic circle. Catalina Express boats leave from the Downtown Landing for Avalon, about an hour's crossing, and we drop at the terminal.
Convention centre, hotels and the Grand Prix
The Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, with the Terrace Theater and the Long Beach Arena, is on Ocean Boulevard. The Hyatt Regency Long Beach, the Westin Long Beach, the Renaissance and the Hilton are all close. Each spring, usually in April, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach closes the downtown streets for its street circuit; roads around the course shut for days, so book early and expect a drop at the edge of the closure. Weddings, proms and nights out
Long Beach has a busy celebration calendar. Weddings are held at waterfront venues, hotel ballrooms and on the decks near the Queen Mary, and spring brings prom season for schools across the South Bay and Orange County. Driving in Long Beach
The I-405, I-710 and I-605 carry heavy truck traffic from the ports, and the 710 can crawl at shift changes. There are no tolls in Long Beach itself; the Orange County toll roads and 405 Express Lanes begin to the southeast.
