Downtown Tucson mixes the Tucson Convention Center, Hotel Congress and the restaurants of Congress Street and the Mercado district, linked to the university by the Sun Link streetcar. Choosing the right vehicle
A Standard Sedan fits one or two travellers. The executive SUV is the usual pick for three people, golf bags or a gem buyer with sample cases. One-way runs to Phoenix, Sedona and the border
Tucson travellers often fly one way through Phoenix. A private airport transfer to Phoenix Sky Harbor takes about two hours on I-10; allow extra time at rush hour on the Phoenix end. Other common runs:
- Phoenix downtown or Scottsdale: 115 to 125 miles, about 2 to 2.5 hours.
- Sedona: around 230 miles, 3.5 to 4 hours via I-10 and I-17.
- Tombstone and Bisbee: 70 to 95 miles, 1 h 15 to 1 h 45.
- Nogales at the Mexican border: 65 miles on I-19, about one hour.

Desert driving: heat, monsoon and time zone
Summer highs regularly pass 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so cars are cooled before you get in and water is worth carrying on desert trips. The monsoon, usually July to September, brings sudden storms, flooded washes and dust storms on I-10 that can close lanes for a while; chauffeurs do not cross running washes.
