Who uses Gare de l'Est?
This is the Paris terminus for eastern France and Germany. Since the LGV Est opened, SNCF TGV INOUI trains reach Reims in about 45 minutes, Metz and Nancy in about 1 hour 30 minutes, and Strasbourg in under 2 hours. Luxembourg is about 2 hours 10 minutes away. International high-speed trains, run jointly by SNCF and Deutsche Bahn as ICE and TGV services, connect Paris with Saarbrücken, Mannheim, Frankfurt (about 3 hours 50 minutes), Stuttgart (about 3 hours 10 minutes) and Munich. Transilien line P serves the eastern suburbs and Meaux, and a TER service runs to Champagne.
Metro lines 4, 5 and 7 stop beneath the station, and the RER E platform at Magenta is a short walk away.
Station layout and entrances
The classical façade faces Place du 11 Novembre 1918 and the long Boulevard de Strasbourg. Inside, one wide hall spans about 30 platforms, with high-speed trains usually at the numbered platforms nearest the centre. Side exits open onto Rue d'Alsace (west) and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin (east), and an underground car park serves both drop-off and pick-up. Gare du Nord is only about 400 metres north, a five-minute walk along Rue d'Alsace or Rue de Dunkerque, which is useful if you are connecting to a Eurostar.
Curbside pickup and where cars may stop
The standard is curbside at the pick-up zone the station designates for pre-booked vehicles, or in the underground car park. Private hire cars are not allowed to wait at the taxi rank in front of the station, and the busy Boulevard de Strasbourg is no place to stop. After you leave the train, call or message the chauffeur, who sends the precise meeting spot.
A platform or concourse meet, with the chauffeur at the barriers holding a name board, is an add-on through meet and greet. Add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Train tracking and what happens with delays

Gare de l'Est sits in the north-east of Paris, so it is one of the quickest stations for Charles de Gaulle: typically 35-55 minutes via the A1, depending on the Porte de la Chapelle junction. The business aviation terminals at Le Bourget are 25-40 minutes away. Orly is a cross-city run of 40-60 minutes.

Hotels, the 10th arrondissement and the business districts
The station is in the 10th, with Canal Saint-Martin a short walk away. Opéra and the department stores of Boulevard Haussmann are 10-15 minutes by car, the Place Vendôme hotels about 15-20 minutes and the Golden Triangle around 20 minutes. The exhibition centre at Paris Nord Villepinte, used for many large trade fairs, is on the way to CDG. Reims and Épernay are the most common road trips from this station, and a chauffeur lets everyone taste. Plan on:
