Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at Humberto Delgado
Lisbon Airport is unusually close to the city, about 7 km north of the Baixa, with houses and offices right up to the perimeter. Terminal 1 is the main building and handles TAP Air Portugal and nearly all full-service and long-haul airlines. Terminal 2, on the far side of the airfield, is used mainly for departures by several low-cost carriers; passengers arriving on those flights normally come out through Terminal 1, and a free shuttle bus links the two buildings. Where the chauffeur picks you up at LIS
The standard service is curbside pickup at the designated area for pre-booked and commercial vehicles serving the arrivals level of Terminal 1. Contact the chauffeur once you have your bags, and they will confirm exactly where the car is waiting and walk you the last few metres. Border control, EES and queue times
Portugal is in Schengen. Flights from the UK, Brazil, the United States, Canada, Africa and the Middle East arrive at non-Schengen gates and go through Portuguese border control, where the EU Entry/Exit System now records non-EU visitors with fingerprints and a facial image on first entry. ETIAS has not launched, so no pre-travel authorisation is required at present.
Lisbon's border hall has a reputation for long queues when transatlantic and African flights land in the same early-morning wave, and waits of an hour or more have been common at peaks. Most motorways around Lisbon, including the A1 to Porto, the A2 south and the A5 to Cascais, are electronically tolled, as are the two Tagus bridges when travelling into the city. The coast road to Cascais and the approach to Sintra slow down sharply on summer weekends.
Metro and rail from the airport
The red line of the Lisbon Metro starts at Aeroporto station, outside Terminal 1, and reaches Saldanha in about 20 minutes; most central hotels need a change of line. For intercity trips, CP runs Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains to Porto and the Algarve from Oriente station, which is 10 minutes from the airport by car. The metro is a sensible, cheap option with a backpack. With suitcases, steps and cobbled hills are the problem: many hotels in Alfama, Chiado and the Bairro Alto sit on streets a train cannot reach and a wheeled case does not enjoy.

Some lanes in Alfama and the Bairro Alto are too narrow for large vehicles; the chauffeur will stop at the nearest accessible point and help with bags. Delays, extra waiting and cancellations
If the flight lands late, the chauffeur waits for the new arrival time at no charge for the delay. Once the included waiting ends, time is added in 15-minute blocks. You can cancel free until 72 hours before pickup; after that the charge is 10% up to 48 hours, 50% up to 24 hours, and 100% inside 24 hours or for a no-show.
