BWI, DCA or Dulles: which airport for Annapolis?

The Naval Academy: what visitors need to know about access
The United States Naval Academy occupies the Yard on the Severn River, next to the Historic District. Access is controlled. Visitors without Department of Defense credentials generally enter on foot through the visitor gate with a government-issued photo ID, and private cars without credentials are not normally allowed onto the grounds. Across Spa Creek, Eastport is home to marinas, sailmakers and waterfront restaurants. West Street leads out to the Inner West Street arts area, the Parole commercial district and Annapolis Towne Centre.

Washington, Baltimore and the Eastern Shore
Annapolis sits between two capital-region cities. Transfers to Washington, D.C. for federal meetings and to Baltimore are routine, as are cruise passengers heading to the Cruise Maryland Terminal. Amtrak and MARC travellers are usually collected at BWI's rail station or at New Carrollton, or at Washington Union Station. Driving in and around Annapolis
Driving is on the right. The Bay Bridge is tolled eastbound by the Maryland Transportation Authority, and summer Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons can bring long queues on US 50 in both directions. Lane closures on the bridge for maintenance are common. Downtown parking is scarce and the circles confuse visiting drivers, which is one reason travellers prefer a chauffeur. Low-lying streets near City Dock occasionally flood at very high tides.
Choosing the vehicle
