Before you fly: the Aruba ED card
Every visitor must complete the online Embarkation and Disembarkation (ED) card before travelling, through the official Aruba ED card portal. Since 2024 air travellers aged eight and over also pay the Aruba sustainability fee of USD 20, once per calendar year, in the same process; cruise passengers are exempt. Queen Beatrix International (AUA): where the chauffeur meets you
AUA is on the south coast, a few kilometres east of Oranjestad. After immigration, baggage and customs you leave the arrivals hall to the forecourt, where pre-booked ground transportation collects passengers at the designated pickup area. That is the standard pickup; the chauffeur sends the vehicle details and position. A chauffeur inside the AUA arrivals hall with your name on a board is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Flights are tracked and international arrivals include 60 minutes of waiting from the actual landing. For departures to the United States, remember that AUA has US Customs and Border Protection preclearance, so you clear US immigration in Aruba before boarding. Sunset traffic on J.E. Irausquin Boulevard in Palm Beach and on the roundabouts into Oranjestad is the usual delay. The fixed fare does not move.
Palm Beach, Eagle Beach and Oranjestad
The island's hotel zones line the calm west coast. Eagle Beach has the low-rise resorts, including Bucuti & Tara and several boutique properties, with a wide, uncrowded beach. Palm Beach further north has the high-rise hotels, casinos, the Palm Beach Plaza and most of the evening restaurants. Oranjestad, the capital, has the harbour, the Renaissance resorts with their private island shuttle, and the restored Dutch colonial streets around Main Street. Villas sit in Malmok, Noord, Tierra del Sol and around the Alto Vista area. A dinner in Savaneta or a night around Palm Beach is easier with the hourly chauffeur service.
Aruba Cruise Terminal in Oranjestad
Ships berth alongside at the Aruba Cruise Terminal on the Oranjestad waterfront, a short walk from the town centre. Pickups are at the designated transport area outside the terminal building. For passengers flying in to board, AUA to the terminal is only 10 to 15 minutes, so the timing question is check-in windows rather than distance. Driving in Aruba
Aruba drives on the right. Roads are generally in good condition, with many multi-lane roundabouts that are the main hazard for visitors who hire a car. There are no tolls. Arikok National Park on the eastern side has rough, unpaved roads to the natural pool and the north-coast caves that are only suitable for four-wheel-drive tour vehicles, not executive cars.
Choosing a vehicle
A Standard Sedan covers a couple with suitcases. An executive SUV handles a family or a group with dive bags. A Standard Black SUV or Sprinter Van moves a wedding party or friends in one vehicle. Minicoaches and motorcoaches handle incentive and conference groups. A stretch limousine or a Rolls-Royce, Maybach or Bentley for a wedding is partner-supplied where available. Weddings and events

Events by month
- January and February: Aruba Carnival, with the Grand Parade in Oranjestad on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday and the Lighting Parade in San Nicolas.
- May: the Soul Beach Music Festival, usually over the US Memorial Day weekend.
- Autumn: jazz and food festivals, with dates announced by the tourism authority.

Island tours and dinners
An afternoon loop of the island takes in the California Lighthouse and Alto Vista Chapel in the north, the Casibari rock formations, the Natural Bridge remains on the north coast and the fishing village of Savaneta, before ending at Baby Beach near San Nicolas. On paved roads that is a comfortable four to five hours by chauffeured SUV. Many visitors also book a car for one or two dinners, since popular restaurants in Palm Beach, Eagle Beach and Savaneta are spread out and parking at sunset is scarce.
Money and practical notes
The currency is the Aruban florin, pegged to the US dollar, and US dollars are accepted almost everywhere. Tap water is desalinated and safe. Aruba sits outside the hurricane belt, which is one reason it stays busy in the autumn.
