How pickup works at Monterey Regional
MRY has one compact terminal. Standard pickup is curbside in the zone the airport designates for pre-arranged commercial vehicles, steps from baggage claim; the chauffeur messages the spot and the car details after landing. A name-board greeting inside is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Private flyers use the FBOs on the field, Monterey Jet Center and Del Monte Aviation; share the tail number and FBO and the chauffeur works to that FBO's ramp rules. Golf trips on the peninsula
Golf is the reason many guests come. Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill and The Links at Spanish Bay sit inside the gates, and Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz and the courses of Carmel Valley are a short drive away. A typical golf booking is an arrival transfer, a car each morning timed to the tee time, and a pickup when the round and lunch are done. Clubs travel in an executive SUV or, for a foursome, a Standard Black SUV. Carmel's quirks a driver needs to know
Carmel-by-the-Sea has no street numbers on most homes; cottages carry names and locations are given as cross streets, such as "Dolores, 4 SW of 7th." Give us the cross-street description or a map pin and the chauffeur confirms the door the day before. The village streets are narrow, parking on Ocean Avenue is tight, and there are no streetlights in much of the residential area, so evening drop-offs are slower than the distance suggests. A Standard Sedan or executive SUV fits the lanes better than a Sprinter.
Pebble Beach and 17-Mile Drive
Pebble Beach is a gated private community reached through the Carmel Gate, the Highway 1 Gate and others. Hotel guests at The Lodge at Pebble Beach, The Inn at Spanish Bay and Casa Palmero are cleared for entry, and visitors pay a gate fee for 17-Mile Drive; rules for commercial vehicles differ from private cars and can change on event weeks, so we confirm entry with the property when you book. The drive past the Lone Cypress, Bird Rock and Cypress Point is a favourite for a short hourly chauffeur service booking.
Events by month
- Late January or February: the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on the PGA Tour, with heavy traffic on Highway 1 and inside the gates.
- Spring: the Carmel Art Festival and garden events around the Carmel Mission.
- Mid-August: Monterey Car Week, the busiest week of the year, with the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on the final Sunday, The Quail in Carmel Valley and the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
- September: the Monterey Jazz Festival at the county fairgrounds.

Big Sur by car
Highway 1 south of Carmel runs about 13 miles to Bixby Creek Bridge and roughly 30 miles to the Post Ranch Inn and Ventana, with Nepenthe beyond. The Big Sur coast has a long history of landslide closures; the Regent's Slide section reopened in January 2026, but check Caltrans road status before any trip, since conditions change after storms. The road is two lanes with few passing places, so a day south is best as an hourly booking with a chauffeur who knows the pull-outs.
Monterey, Cannery Row and Carmel Valley
Monterey, five minutes north, has Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Fisherman's Wharf and the Monterey Conference Center downtown. Carmel Valley Road leads east to Carmel Valley Village, Bernardus Lodge and Carmel Valley Ranch, with tasting rooms along the way. Rail and cruise connections
The nearest Amtrak stop is Salinas, about 20 miles inland, served by the Coast Starlight. Cruise ships make occasional tender calls in Monterey Bay, landing passengers near the harbour; pickups are timed to the tender schedule.
Which vehicle suits the peninsula?

Routes along the coast
Most longer trips go north to San Francisco and San Jose, or south along the coast to Santa Barbara, about 230 miles via US-101, which is the faster route than Highway 1 through Big Sur. Wine country trips reach Napa in about 3 hours. All run as intercity transfers.
