Sacramento International (SMF): Terminals A and B
SMF lies about 12 miles northwest of downtown, beside I-5 in Natomas farmland. It has two terminals. The State Capitol and Capitol Park anchor downtown, with state offices, lobbying firms and law practices in the blocks around them. The SAFE Credit Union Convention Center on J Street was rebuilt and expanded a few years ago, and the Hyatt Regency Sacramento and the Sheraton Grand stand beside it. The Kimpton Sawyer is attached to the Downtown Commons plaza and the Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings and a busy concert calendar. The Citizen Hotel occupies a historic tower near the Capitol, and the Embassy Suites overlooks the river by Old Sacramento. Across the Tower Bridge, Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento is home to the River Cats and currently hosts the Athletics while their Las Vegas stadium is built.

Trains at Sacramento Valley Station
Sacramento Valley Station, in the old Southern Pacific depot next to Old Sacramento, is one of the busiest stations on the Amtrak network in California. The Capitol Corridor runs frequent trains to the Bay Area and San Jose, the Gold Runner (formerly San Joaquins) heads down the Central Valley, and the long-distance Coast Starlight and California Zephyr call daily. What driving here is like
Traffic drives on the right. I-5, I-80, US-50 and Business 80 meet around downtown and slow at peak hours, roughly 7:00 to 9:00 and 16:00 to 18:30. Bay Area bridges charge tolls westbound only. In winter, Caltrans often requires chains or four-wheel drive on I-80 and US-50 over the Sierra; current conditions are on Caltrans. Summer heat regularly passes 100°F, and wildfire smoke can affect foothill routes.
