The short answer is 20 to 45 minutes for roughly 9 miles, via Lincoln Boulevard or the I-405 and I-10, with the evening peak at the long end. Private flights: Van Nuys and Santa Monica Airport

Santa Monica Airport (SMO) handles light general aviation only. Its runway was shortened in 2017, and under an agreement with the FAA the city may close the airport after 2028. Larger private jets use Van Nuys (VNY), about 16 miles north over the Sepulveda Pass, typically 30 to 60 minutes. Hollywood Burbank (BUR) is about 22 miles away, usually 40 to 75 minutes, and is often easier than LAX for domestic flights. Beach hotels and where cars wait

Santa Monica's hotel pickups cluster along Ocean Avenue and the beach: Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar on the sand, the Fairmont Miramar at the top of Wilshire, the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, The Georgian, Hotel Shangri-La, the JW Marriott Le Merigot and the Santa Monica Proper. Driving realities on the Westside

The I-10 Santa Monica Freeway ends at the McClure Tunnel and turns into Pacific Coast Highway. The I-405 at the Sepulveda Pass is one of the slowest stretches in the country at peak times, and the I-10 eastbound backs up from mid-afternoon. There are no tolls. Silicon Beach business travel and roadshows

Santa Monica's offices host technology, media and gaming companies alongside the agencies and studios of the wider Westside. Visitors often split a day between a Colorado Avenue office, a lunch in Venice and meetings in Playa Vista or Culver City, then an evening in Beverly Hills.
