Esenboga Airport (ESB)
Esenboga lies about 28 km north-east of the city centre. International and domestic flights operate from one terminal building, with domestic arrivals and international arrivals on separate levels. Standard pickup is curbside at the designated pre-arranged pickup area outside arrivals; your chauffeur messages the vehicle and location after you land. A name-board meet and greet inside arrivals is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Many Ankara arrivals connect in Istanbul, so domestic-flight waiting rules often apply.

The government district and embassy quarter
The ministries cluster in the Bakanliklar area just south of Kizilay, the city's central square, with the Grand National Assembly (TBMM) on its edge. The Presidential Complex sits at Bestepe to the west. Embassies spread through Cankaya, Gaziosmanpasa and Kavaklidere, the hilly districts south of the centre, which also hold the older diplomatic residences. Official events can close streets around Kizilay and Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Atatürk, at short notice.
Business districts, hotels and venues
Newer offices and towers stand along the Eskisehir Road corridor in Söğütözü, Balgat and Cukurambar, home to many corporate headquarters. Visiting executives often stay at the JW Marriott Ankara in Söğütözü, the Sheraton Ankara in Kavaklidere or the Swissôtel Ankara in Cankaya, while the historic Ulus area near the citadel has boutique options. The ATO Congresium on the Söğütözü side hosts trade fairs and large conferences. Ankara YHT station and high-speed rail
The Ankara YHT station, next to the historic main station in the centre, is the hub of Turkey's high-speed network. YHT trains reach Istanbul in about 4 to 4.5 hours, Eskisehir in about 1.5 hours and Konya in about 1 hour 45 minutes. Schedules are on TCDD Tasimacilik. The chauffeur meets you at the station pickup area and can be timed to the train. Many travellers take the train one way and a car the other.

Cappadocia and other day trips from Ankara
Cappadocia is the most requested long day out. Göreme, Ürgüp and Uçhisar sit about 300 km south-east, reached in 3 to 3.5 hours via the Aksaray or Kirsehir routes, so most visitors go overnight rather than as a single day. A driven trip lets you stop at Tuz Gölü, the vast salt lake beside the road, and continue to cave hotels in the valleys. Closer to the city, Gordion, the ancient Phrygian capital near Polatli, is about 1 hour 15 minutes west, and the Beypazari old town is about 1.5 hours north-west. Driving and weather
Turkey drives on the right. Ankara's wide boulevards move well outside the peaks, but the Eskisehir Road, the Konya Road and routes into Kizilay are slow between 7:30 and 9:30 and again from 17:00 to 19:30. Winters on the Anatolian plateau are cold, with snow and ice from December to February, which is why executive SUVs are a common choice then. See the fleet.
Entry rules for Turkey
Passport holders from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and most EU countries currently enter Türkiye visa-free for short stays, generally up to 90 days in 180. Other nationalities may need an e-Visa, which is applied for online before travel at evisa.gov.tr; official and diplomatic passports follow separate rules. Türkiye is outside Schengen, so EES does not apply.
Annual calendar
National days such as 23 April, 19 May, 30 August and Republic Day on 29 October bring ceremonies at Anitkabir and road closures in the centre. Parliament normally sits from October to early summer. Diplomatic receptions cluster around national days of individual embassies.

Cancel more than 72 hours ahead at no charge. The fee is 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show.
