Torba and Bodrum town are closest to the airport, while Bitez, Turgutreis and Gümüşlük suit longer family stays. Cruise port and the ferry to Kos
Cruise ships call at the Bodrum Cruise Port on the edge of the town, a short drive from the castle and the Halikarnassos mausoleum site. Passenger ferries also cross to Kos in Greece in under an hour in season, and to other Dodecanese islands on a seasonal schedule. Arriving from Kos means passport control on the Turkish side, and the chauffeur meets you at the port pickup area after you clear it.
Day trips from Bodrum
A full-day city tours and day trips booking can reach Ephesus near Selçuk (about 170 km, 2 to 2.5 hours each way), Didyma and Miletus (around 90 minutes), or Lake Bafa. Hourly service is simpler for a day of beach clubs, lunch in Gümüşlük and dinner in town.
Driving realities
Turkey drives on the right. The D330 links the airport and the peninsula, and inside the peninsula the roads are narrow, winding and busy with scooters in July and August. Parking in Yalikavak and Türkbükü is tight, which is why chauffeurs drop at the door and wait nearby. No motorway tolls apply on the airport route; tolled motorways begin toward Izmir.
Turkish entry rules in 2026
Visa rules depend on your passport. Citizens of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and most EU countries currently enter Türkiye visa-free for short tourist stays, generally up to 90 days in any 180. Some other nationalities need an e-Visa, which must be obtained online before travel at the official Turkish e-Visa site; walk-up visa counters are no longer an option. Passports usually need at least 150 days' validity from entry for e-Visa holders; check the rule for your passport. Turkey is outside the Schengen area, so the EU Entry/Exit System does not apply here.
Choosing the right vehicle in Bodrum
A business or Luxury Executive Sedan works for a couple heading to a Bodrum town hotel. An executive SUV is the default for villas, for the steep drives above Türkbükü and Gündoğan and for bags that have been packed for two weeks.
