Keflavík International Airport (KEF): the 45-50 km run
Almost every international flight lands at Keflavík, on the Reykjanes peninsula, not in Reykjavik itself. The road into the capital is Route 41, the Reykjanesbraut dual carriageway, and the drive to downtown hotels is usually 40 to 50 minutes. There is one terminal building. Iceland is a Schengen country, so non-EU visitors on short stays register fingerprints and a facial image under the EU Entry/Exit System on entry at Keflavík if it is their first Schengen port. The separate ETIAS authorisation had not started as of September 2026. Travellers connecting from North America to Europe via Keflavík clear Schengen control in Iceland.
