How pickup works at Sharm El Sheikh International (SSH)
SSH sits on the northern edge of the resort strip, close to Nabq Bay. Most international flights, including the large charter programmes from Europe, use Terminal 1, which opened in 2007. The older building, called Terminal 2, was modernised and carries a smaller share of flights, so check which one your airline uses. Background on the airport's layout is on Wikipedia. Sinai-only stamp or a full Egyptian visa?
This is the question that decides how long you wait at passport control. Travellers flying directly into Sharm can usually ask for the free Sinai-only entry stamp, valid for up to 15 days and limited to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba. Since early 2026 the stamp is applied electronically at the immigration desk. If you plan to visit Cairo, Luxor, Ras Mohammed by some routes, or stay longer, buy a full tourist visa on arrival or apply in advance on Egypt's official e-visa portal. Which area of Sharm are you staying in?
The resort is a long coastal ribbon rather than a single town. Nabq Bay in the north is a newer strip of large all-inclusive resorts next to the Nabq protected area. Sharks Bay and Ras Nasrani are close to the airport, with coral reefs off the shore. Naama Bay is the original centre, with the promenade, restaurants and the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh on the hillside above. SOHO Square, near the Savoy, is the evening entertainment quarter in the White Knight area. South of Naama, Hadaba, Ras Um Sid and the Old Market hold smaller hotels, the mosque of Al Sahaba and the marina. Dahab, a relaxed town on the Gulf of Aqaba, makes a full day with the Blue Hole and the lagoon. Safety and security in Sharm, stated plainly
Sharm El Sheikh has a secured perimeter, vehicle checkpoints and a visible tourist police presence. The UK Foreign Office advises against all travel to North Sinai and against all but essential travel to parts of inland northern South Sinai, while Sharm itself sits outside those zones.
