Sofia Airport: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2
Vasil Levski Sofia Airport lies about 10 km east of the centre. It has two terminals roughly 3 km apart by road. Terminal 2, the newer building, handles most scheduled traffic and is the end of metro line M1. Terminal 1 serves a smaller group of airlines, including some low-cost and charter flights. Check the terminal on your ticket, because the chauffeur is sent to the one your flight uses.

Schengen, EES and the euro: what changed for arrivals
Bulgaria joined the Schengen area fully on 1 January 2025, so land checks with Romania and Greece ended and flights from other Schengen states arrive as domestic. Visitors from outside the EU who fly in from a non-Schengen airport go through passport control, where the Entry/Exit System (EES) records their biometrics. ETIAS is not yet in operation. Bulgaria also adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, so prices, tips and parking are now in euros. The border with Serbia at Kalotina, on the road to Belgrade, remains an external Schengen border with full checks in both directions.

Districts: from Vitosha Boulevard to Mladost
The historic core around Serdika, the Largo and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral holds ministries, the parliament and the main shopping street, pedestrianised Vitosha Boulevard. South of it, Lozenets and the streets near the National Palace of Culture are home to many embassies and residences. The business corridor runs east along Tsarigradsko Shose, the boulevard to the airport, with office towers and the Sofia Tech Park, and south-east into Mladost, where Business Park Sofia hosts dozens of company offices. The National Palace of Culture (NDK) at the end of Vitosha Boulevard is Bulgaria's largest congress and concert venue, and Inter Expo Center on Tsarigradsko Shose hosts trade shows. Road rules and tolls in Bulgaria
Traffic drives on the right. Outside city limits, cars on national roads and motorways need an electronic vignette, which is checked by camera; the details are on the Bulgarian road toll portal. The Trakia motorway (A1) links Sofia with Plovdiv, and the Struma motorway (A3) heads south towards Greece, with a mountain section through the Kresna gorge still on the old road. Dipped headlights are required in winter. The city's own traffic peaks on Tsarigradsko Shose and the Ring Road at commuting hours, so the chauffeur allows extra time for evening departures to SOF.
Across the borders: Thessaloniki, Bucharest and Belgrade
