Warsaw Chopin Airport: terminal, pickup and timings
Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), in the Okęcie district, is about 10 km south-west of the city centre, one of the closest major airports to its capital in Europe. It has a single passenger terminal with Schengen and non-Schengen piers, and it is the hub of LOT Polish Airlines.
Curbside pickup at the designated area for pre-arranged cars is the standard service; your confirmation explains where it is. A meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations; the engine shows whether it can be added for your flight. Typical drive times from Chopin:
- Śródmieście and the Palace of Culture: 20 to 35 minutes.
- The Wola business cluster around Rondo Daszyńskiego: 20 to 35 minutes.
- Mokotów and the Służewiec office district: 15 to 25 minutes.
- The Old Town and hotels on Krakowskie Przedmieście: 25 to 40 minutes.
- PGE Narodowy and Praga across the Vistula: 25 to 45 minutes.

Warsaw Modlin Airport
Modlin (WMI), about 40 km north-west of the centre near Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, is Warsaw's second airport and is used mainly by low-cost carriers. Allow 45 to 70 minutes to the centre via the S7 expressway, and longer on Friday evenings. Because Modlin flights often land late at night and public transport connections are limited then, a pre-booked car with flight tracking is common here. Modlin details are on modlinairport.pl.
The Warsaw business district, explained
Warsaw's corporate map has three centres, and the chauffeur's route between them shapes your schedule.
Wola and Rondo Daszyńskiego. West of the centre, the former industrial district has become Warsaw's skyscraper cluster, with the Warsaw Spire, where the EU border agency Frontex has its headquarters, and dozens of new office towers. It is the main address for banks, law firms and consultancies.
Śródmieście. The central district around the Palace of Culture and Science holds the Varso Tower next to Warszawa Centralna, the tallest building in the EU, plus the towers along Aleje Jerozolimskie and Rondo ONZ. The Warsaw Stock Exchange is near the Vistula on Książęca street.
Mokotów and Służewiec. South, towards the airport, the Służewiec office area on Domaniewska and Postępu streets hosts many shared-service centres and IT firms. It is quick from the airport but slow from Wola at rush hour.

Old Town, Praga and the rest of the city map
Beyond the office districts, most visitors are picked up in a handful of places. The Old Town and the New Town, rebuilt after 1945 and listed by UNESCO, sit on the escarpment above the Vistula; cars cannot drive through the squares, so pickups are on the edge of the pedestrian area, at points such as Castle Square or Podwale, stated on your confirmation. The Royal Route runs south from there along Krakowskie Przedmieście and Nowy Świat, lined with palaces, churches, the university and the top hotels; parts of it are closed to general traffic at weekends. Further south, Łazienki Park and the Belweder area hold several embassies and the leafy streets of Ujazdów.
Across the river, Praga has become a district of galleries, studios and restaurants, and it is where PGE Narodowy stands. Wilanów, on the southern edge, is known for its royal palace and a newer residential quarter popular with expatriate families. Żoliborz and Bielany to the north are mostly residential. Knowing these names helps when you add a pickup: an address typed as "Old Town" is assigned to a specific permitted stopping point before the chauffeur sets off.

- June: Wianki, the midsummer festival on the Vistula boulevards.
- 1 August: the anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. At 17:00, sirens sound and traffic across the city stops for a minute.
- September: the Warsaw Autumn contemporary music festival and the autumn marathon usually take place.
- October: the Warsaw Film Festival. The International Chopin Piano Competition is held every five years, most recently in October 2025.
- December: the Christmas market and lights in the Old Town and along the Royal Route.

Train stations: Centralna, Wschodnia and Zachodnia
Warszawa Centralna, below the city centre next to the Palace of Culture, handles most express trains, with PKP Intercity services to Kraków in about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes and to Gdańsk in about 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours. Warszawa Wschodnia on the Praga side and Warszawa Zachodnia in the west are the other main stations, and many long-distance trains call at all three. Driving realities in Warsaw
Poland drives on the right. Warsaw's traffic peaks roughly 7:00 to 9:30 and 15:30 to 18:30, and the Vistula bridges and the S8 and S2 ring roads are the usual bottlenecks. Since July 2024, a Clean Transport Zone (Strefa Czystego Transportu) has covered much of the central districts, restricting older petrol and diesel vehicles; the affiliate fleet's age rule keeps our cars well inside it. Some privately operated motorway sections, such as parts of the A1, A2 and A4, charge tolls. Winters are cold, with snow and ice from December to February, so pickup times on early flights allow for it.
Entering Poland: EES, ETIAS and passport control
Poland is in the Schengen area. At Chopin, flights from outside Schengen, such as those from London, New York or the Gulf, go through passport control, and since the Entry/Exit System completed its rollout in April 2026, non-EU short-stay visitors are registered with fingerprints and a facial image on first Schengen entry. ETIAS is not running yet; the EU removed its late-2026 date in July 2026 and will announce the launch several months in advance. Check the official EU travel portal before you fly. The 60-minute included wait from actual landing gives time for the queue.
Government, diplomatic and corporate travel
Warsaw hosts embassies, EU agencies and NATO-related meetings, which means delegations and motorcades.
