Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK): terminals and pickup
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is in Tangerang, Banten province, northwest of the city. It has three terminals. Terminal 3, the newest and largest, handles most international flights and some domestic services. Terminals 1 and 2 are mostly domestic, with Terminal 2 also used for some international flights, and allocations change, so check your ticket. A free skytrain links the terminals and the airport rail station. After immigration and customs, follow the signs to the pickup area for pre-booked cars; your confirmation names the meeting point.

The main route is the Prof. Dr. Ir. Sedyatmo toll road into the city, which joins the inner-city toll ring. Rain, accidents and the evening peak make the ranges wide; if you have a dinner or meeting straight after landing, allow the upper figure.
Halim Perdanakusuma airport (HLP)
Halim Perdanakusuma in East Jakarta is a mixed military and civil airport with a limited schedule of domestic flights and a significant share of private jets and state flights. It is much closer to Kuningan and Sudirman than Soekarno-Hatta, often 20 to 40 minutes. Toll roads and the ganjil-genap odd-even rule
Two local rules shape Jakarta driving.
Toll roads. Jakarta's toll network, including the airport toll road, the inner-city toll road (Tol Dalam Kota), the Jakarta Outer Ring Road and the elevated Jakarta-Cikampek road toward Karawang, is fully cashless and paid with electronic cards. There are no cash lanes, so cars pass the gates without stopping to pay.
Ganjil-genap. On around 25 major roads, including Jalan Sudirman, MH Thamrin, Gatot Subroto, HR Rasuna Said and MT Haryono, private cars may only drive when the last digit of the licence plate matches the date: odd plates on odd dates, even plates on even dates. The rule applies Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 10:00 and from 16:00 to 21:00, and not on weekends or national holidays. Battery electric cars are exempt, as are emergency vehicles. Because chauffeured cars carry private plates, your local chauffeur plans each trip around the rule, either with a vehicle whose plate fits the date or a route that avoids the restricted roads during those hours. Most major hotels and office towers on those roads can still be reached; the chauffeur simply picks the approach.
Which vehicle should I choose?

Business districts, hotels and venues
The Golden Triangle of Sudirman, Thamrin and Kuningan is where most visitors work. SCBD (Sudirman Central Business District) has the densest cluster of office towers, malls and restaurants, with The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place nearby. Thamrin runs north past Bundaran HI, home of Hotel Indonesia Kempinski and Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. Kuningan, along Jalan Rasuna Said, holds embassies, Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta and Raffles Jakarta. Menteng is the leafy old residential district, Senayan has the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex and the Jakarta Convention Center, Kemang is known for restaurants and expatriate housing, and Pantai Indah Kapuk in the north is a newer waterfront district close to the airport. Outside the city, BSD City in Tangerang is home to Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE).

Eid al-Fitr moves about 11 days earlier each year. In the week before it, millions leave the city by toll road, and the days after are unusually quiet in Jakarta itself. Port, rail and intercity links
Tanjung Priok, Indonesia's busiest seaport, is in North Jakarta. It handles containers, ferries and cruise calls, and is a regular point for ship crew changes; see shipping crew change. Allow 60 to 90 minutes from Soekarno-Hatta. Rail stations include Gambir for long-distance trains across Java, Pasar Senen, and Halim for the Whoosh high-speed line to Bandung, which takes roughly 45 minutes to Tegalluar. The airport rail link runs from the terminals to BNI City (Sudirman) and Manggarai.

Driving side and road conditions
Indonesia drives on the left. Jakarta has heavy traffic almost all day, with motorcycles filling every gap, so journey times are long and variable even on short distances. U-turn points on divided roads add distance. Drop-offs at big towers and malls go through security checks, where guards inspect vehicles at the entrance. Chauffeurs use the building's lobby lanes rather than stopping on main roads. The MRT North-South line and LRT Jabodebek help with city travel, but for luggage, groups or tight schedules, a car remains the practical choice.
Entry rules for Indonesia in 2026
Nationals of many countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, EU states and Australia, can obtain a visa on arrival, best applied for online in advance as an e-VOA through the official Indonesian e-Visa site. It allows a stay of up to 30 days and can be extended once. Citizens of ASEAN countries enter visa-free. All travellers must complete the online arrival card, which combines immigration, customs and health declarations, within three days before arrival. Visa fees are set by the immigration authority and were under review in 2026, so check the current figure. General guidance is published by the Directorate General of Immigration.
Practical tips for arriving in Jakarta
Jakarta rewards a little preparation. Arrange your e-VOA and arrival card before boarding, since both are checked on arrival and paper queues at Soekarno-Hatta can be long after several wide-body flights land together. Keep some rupiah for small purchases, although cards are accepted in hotels and malls. Hotels and office towers screen every vehicle at the gate, so allow a few extra minutes for a drop-off at a large complex. If your first meeting is in South Jakarta at 09:00, landing at 07:00 is tight: the morning peak and the ganjil-genap hours overlap, and a later meeting or an overnight stay near the airport is the safer plan. Finally, give the building name and tower, such as a specific tower within a larger SCBD complex, because many addresses share one street number and the entrance differs by tower.

More than 72 hours before pickup, cancellation is free. Within 72 hours it costs 10% of the fare, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or for a no-show 100%. Change a pickup time or address through the link in your confirmation.
