Split Airport (SPU): location and pickup
Split Airport is not in Split. It sits at Kaštela, on the bay between Split and Trogir, roughly 25 km west of the city centre and about 6 km from Trogir. A new terminal opened in 2019 to handle the summer peak. Standard pickup is at the designated pre-arranged pickup area outside arrivals, and the chauffeur sends the exact point and vehicle details after touchdown. Being greeted at the SPU arrivals exit with a name board is an add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations. Terminal information is on the Split Airport site.
Because Saturday charter and yacht-week arrivals can stack up, included waiting matters: 60 minutes from actual landing on international flights, 30 minutes on domestic flights from Zagreb, and 15 minutes on other pickups, then 15-minute blocks. Every flight is tracked. See airport transfers.

The coast road through Kaštela is slow on summer Saturdays; the motorway A1 inland is faster for Šibenik, Zadar and Zagreb, and it is tolled.
Ferry port and cruise quays
The port of Split wraps around the harbour directly in front of Diocletian's Palace. Jadrolinija and other operators run car ferries and catamarans to Brač, Hvar, Vis, Šolta and Korčula, and overnight ferries cross to Ancona in Italy in season. Cruise ships berth along the quays or anchor in the bay and tender passengers to the Riva. The chauffeur meets you at an agreed point outside the ferry and cruise terminal area; send the ship or ferry name and time. Inside the palace walls and around the centre
Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO site, forms the old town itself, and it is closed to traffic. Drop-offs for hotels inside the walls happen at the nearest permitted point on the Riva side or by the Golden Gate to the north, then it is a short walk. Other districts:
- Bačvice and Firule: beaches and hotels just east of the port.
- Marjan and Meje: villas and hotels on the forested peninsula west of the centre.
- Znjan and Stobreč: newer resort hotels east of town.
- Podstrana: larger resorts such as Le Méridien Lav, 10 km southeast.
Events and busy weeks
- July: the Ultra Europe electronic music festival, usually at Park Mladeži, followed by yacht parties on the islands.
- Mid-July to mid-August: the Split Summer Festival of opera and theatre in the Peristyle and around the palace.
- 7 May: the feast of St Domnius (Sveti Duje), the city's patron, with a fair on the Riva.
- Autumn to spring: HNK Hajduk Split home matches at Poljud stadium.

Croatian entry rules for Split arrivals
Croatia has been in the Schengen area since 1 January 2023, when it also adopted the euro. If you fly in from Frankfurt, Paris or Vienna you do not pass passport control. Non-EU visitors arriving from outside the Schengen area, including on UK flights, register in the EU Entry/Exit System on their first entry; it has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. ETIAS is not yet required and, as of September 2026, the EU has no confirmed start date. The EU travel site carries the current position. Ferries from Ancona also arrive from within Schengen.
Vehicles for Dalmatian trips

Yacht charter Saturdays
Split is one of the Adriatic's main charter bases, with marinas at ACI Split, Kaštela and Trogir. Most charters change over on Saturday, when guests fly in, board in the afternoon and the previous week's guests leave for the airport in the morning. That compresses a week of transfers into a few hours on the Kaštela road. Book early, give the marina and pier name, and let the chauffeur know if you need a stop for provisioning on the way. Rail and bus
Split's railway station sits next to the ferry port, with a limited number of daily trains to Zagreb taking roughly 6 to 8 hours; timetables are on HŽPP. Most travellers fly or drive. The main bus station is beside the port too, which makes the harbour area congested at changeover times.
Driving realities
Traffic drives on the right. Parking in the centre is scarce and the Riva is pedestrian. The A1 motorway is tolled, and summer weekend traffic on the D8 coast road can double journey times. Strong bora winds occasionally close the higher A1 sections and suspend some ferry sailings.
