Morning peaks between about 7:00 and 9:30 slow every approach into the city, largely because of commuter traffic from France, Belgium and Germany. Since March 2025 the tram line has run from the airport through Kirchberg to the city centre, and Luxembourg's public transport has been free nationwide since 2020, so colleagues travelling light have that option; the chauffeur remains the simpler answer with luggage, a tight schedule or a group.

Kirchberg: the EU and banking district
Kirchberg is the plateau across the Red Bridge (Pont Grande-Duchesse Charlotte) from the old town, and it is where much of the chauffeur work in Luxembourg happens. - March: the Luxembourg City Film Festival usually runs in early spring.
- April to May: the Octave pilgrimage to the cathedral usually falls in spring, and EU Council meetings move to Luxembourg in April.
- May or June: the night marathon through the city is usually held in late spring.
- 22 to 23 June: National Day, with fireworks over the Pétrusse valley on the evening of the 22nd and ceremonies on the 23rd. Expect road closures in the centre.
- Late August to early September: the Schueberfouer funfair on the Glacis, one of the largest in the region.

Rail: Luxembourg central station
Gare Centrale is on Place de la Gare, 2 km south of the old town. TGV trains reach Paris Est in a little over two hours, and regional trains run to Metz, Trier, Arlon and Brussels. Driving in Luxembourg: what to expect
Luxembourg drives on the right, and there are no motorway tolls for cars in the country. The pinch points are predictable: the A3 from France at Dudelange and the Croix de Gasperich interchange, the A6 from Arlon, and the A1 between Findel and Kirchberg in the morning and evening peaks. Road works around the city are frequent, and the dispatch desk plans your pickup time with them in mind. In winter, the plateau at Findel can be foggy or icy; flight tracking absorbs the delays that follow.
Arriving from outside the EU: EES and ETIAS
Luxembourg is in the Schengen area. Since the Entry/Exit System (EES) finished its phased rollout in April 2026, non-EU visitors on short stays have their fingerprints and facial image registered on first entry to the Schengen area, at whichever airport they arrive. Many Luxembourg arrivals come through Frankfurt, Brussels or Paris, so that registration often happens there. ETIAS, the travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, is not yet operating: the EU withdrew its late-2026 target in July 2026 and has said it will announce a start date several months in advance. Check the official EU travel portal before you fly. First registration can lengthen the queue, which is why the 60-minute included wait starts at actual landing.
