Festivals and events by month
- January or February: Thaipoosam Cavadee processions and the Chinese Spring Festival in Port Louis's Chinatown.
- February or March: Maha Shivaratri, when hundreds of thousands of pilgrims walk to the sacred lake at Grand Bassin and some roads close.
- 12 March: National Day, with events at Champ de Mars.

Check-in queues at SSR are longest in the evening, when several long-haul flights to Europe, the Gulf and Asia leave within a couple of hours. Plan to arrive about three hours before an international flight. From Grand Baie or Le Morne, that means leaving the resort around four and a half hours before departure; from Belle Mare or Blue Bay, less. Many resorts allow late check-out or day rooms for evening flights, which the concierge can confirm.
