Jeju International Airport (CJU): what happens after you land
Jeju International Airport is on the northern coast, right on the edge of Jeju City. One terminal building handles both domestic and international flights, with separate arrival areas. The Seoul Gimpo to Jeju route is one of the busiest air corridors in the world, so the domestic side is crowded at almost any hour, especially on weekends and holidays.
Standard pickup is at the designated pre-arranged vehicle pickup area outside arrivals, following the signs; the chauffeur messages the exact point once you land. Meet and greet with a name board is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Flights are tracked, and included waiting is 60 minutes after landing for international arrivals, 30 minutes for domestic flights from Gimpo, Busan or elsewhere, and 15 minutes on other pickups, then 15-minute blocks. Visa-free entry to Jeju and the K-ETA
Jeju has its own entry rule. Under the Jeju visa waiver programme, most foreign nationals can enter for up to 30 days of tourism without a visa, provided they fly directly to Jeju from overseas without first entering another part of Korea; a small list of nationalities is excluded, and the stay is limited to Jeju itself. If your passport is eligible for Korea's general visa waiver, you normally need a K-ETA, but nationals of 22 countries and territories, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and Japan, are temporarily exempt until 31 December 2026. Check the official K-ETA site and your nearest Korean embassy before flying, since the rules depend on nationality and routing.
Where visitors stay on Jeju
Jeju City in the north is where most flights land and business happens: the Nohyeong and Yeon-dong districts hold the Grand Hyatt Jeju in the Jeju Dream Tower and many business hotels. Aewol on the northwest coast is known for its cafe strip and ocean views. Jungmun Resort on the south coast is the planned resort zone with the Shilla Jeju, the Lotte Hotel Jeju, the Parnas Hotel Jeju and ICC Jeju, the International Convention Center that hosts international conferences. Seogwipo has waterfalls, the Olle market and the Gangjeong port. Pyoseon and Seongsan on the east coast lead to the Seongsan Ilchulbong tuff cone, a UNESCO site. Hallasan, South Korea's highest mountain, rises in the middle.
Cruise ships at Gangjeong and Jeju Port
Jeju has two cruise berths. The Jeju Gangjeong Cruise Terminal in Seogwipo, on the south coast, handles many large ships. The Jeju Port International Passenger Terminal in Jeju City, on the north coast, takes cruise calls as well as the domestic car ferries to Mokpo, Wando and Busan. Planning an island day with a chauffeur
Jeju has no railway, and buses between sights are slow, so a car with a chauffeur is the most efficient way to see the island. A typical east-side day: Seongsan Ilchulbong at sunrise, the Manjanggul lava tube, lunch in Seongsan and the Bijarim forest. A west-side day: Hallim Park, the Osulloc tea fields, Sanbangsan and Yongmeori coast. Hallasan hikers are dropped at the Seongpanak or Gwaneumsa trailheads and collected at the end of the day. Seasons and events
- Usually March: the Jeju Fire Festival at Saebyeol Oreum, when a hillside is burned in a traditional ritual.
- Late March to April: canola flowers and cherry blossoms along the east coast and Jeonnong-ro.
- July and August: beach season at Hyeopjae, Hamdeok and Jungmun; peak domestic travel.
- Autumn: silver grass season on the oreum hills, and the Jeju Olle walking festival, usually in November.
- July to September: typhoon season, which can cancel flights and ferries.

Driving on Jeju
Jeju drives on the right like the rest of Korea, and an International Driving Permit is accepted for visitors. Many tourists rent cars, but the island's speed cameras, narrow coastal lanes in villages, sudden fog on the mountain roads over Hallasan and busy parking at popular sights make a chauffeur the relaxed option, particularly after a long flight. Strong winds are part of Jeju life; the chauffeur adjusts routes on the high roads in winter when snow closes stretches of the 1100 Road.
Connecting from Seoul and Busan
