Bordeaux-Merignac Airport (BOD): halls and pickup
Merignac sits about 12 km west of the centre and has three passenger buildings: Hall A, which handles most international and non-Schengen flights, Hall B, used mainly for Air France services including the Paris shuttle, and billi, the low-cost terminal a short walk away. Arrivals in Halls A and B are on the ground floor. The D2 "route des chateaux" through the Medoc is a two-lane road with tractors in the autumn, so a loop of Margaux, Saint-Julien and Pauillac with three appointments fills a day comfortably. Venues and the events calendar
The Parc des Expositions at Bordeaux-Lac is the main trade-fair site, with the Palais des Congres beside it, and the Matmut Atlantique stadium is nearby. Plan around these recurring dates:
- Primeurs week, usually in April, when merchants and critics taste the new vintage at chateaux across the region.
- Marathon de Bordeaux Metropole, usually in April, with road closures in the centre.
- Bordeaux Fete le Vin, held in June in the years it runs, along the quays.
- The harvest, usually September to early October, the busiest time on vineyard roads.

Cruise and river-boat passengers
Smaller ocean cruise ships and Garonne river ships moor along the quays in the city centre, close to the Chartrons and the Place de la Bourse. Larger ships use berths further down the estuary. Driving in Bordeaux: rocade, trams and the pedestrian centre
France drives on the right. The rocade ring road carries almost all airport and vineyard traffic and slows badly between 7:30 and 9:30 and from about 17:00. Inside the ring, the tram network and a large pedestrian zone around the Rue Sainte-Catherine mean a car cannot always stop at a hotel door, and the chauffeur uses the nearest legal set-down point. The Pont Jacques Chaban-Delmas is a lift bridge and occasionally rises for tall ships, which can add a few minutes. Your fare is fixed regardless.

A Standard Sedan fits one or two travellers, a Luxury Executive Sedan suits a senior executive, and an executive SUV or Standard Black SUV carries families and wine buyers with cases. a Sprinter Van moves a small group between chateaux, and a Rolls-Royce or Bentley for a chateau wedding is supplied by a partner. Arriving from outside the EU
The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully in operation since April 2026, so non-EU visitors on short stays give fingerprints and a facial image at their first Schengen border crossing instead of getting a passport stamp. ETIAS, the pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt nationals, is not yet running as of September 2026 and the EU says it will announce the start date several months ahead.
