Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS)
The airport is about 25 km east of the city centre, at Colombier-Saugnieu. From April 2026 all flights have been concentrated in Terminal 1, with Terminal 2 closed for modernisation works, so arrivals now come through Terminal 1's halls. Part-Dieu: station and business district
Lyon Part-Dieu is France's busiest station outside Paris, with TGVs to Paris Gare de Lyon in about 2 hours and direct links to Marseille, Geneva and Brussels. Ski season transfers to the Alps
From December to April, Lyon-Saint Exupéry is a main gateway for the Tarentaise and Mont Blanc resorts. Courchevel, Méribel and Val d'Isère are reached via the A43 and the Moûtiers valley; Saturday changeover days can double journey times, and snow chains or winter tyres are legally required on mountain roads during the winter season. An executive SUV or Sprinter handles skis and luggage. Chamonix is reached via the A40 past Geneva.
Low-emission zone (ZFE) and city driving
Lyon's ZFE covers central Lyon and Villeurbanne, and vehicles need a Crit'Air sticker inside it. The Métropole has barred unclassified, Crit'Air 5, 4 and 3 vehicles, with fines for Crit'Air 3 starting from July 2026; national repeal of the zones was struck down by the Constitutional Council in May 2026. Stickers are ordered on the official Crit'Air site. Other things to know: the Fourvière tunnel on the old A6-A7 corridor jams at weekends and holiday departures, and the northern ring road (TEO) is tolled.

Day trips around Lyon
Lyon sits within an hour of some of eastern France's best-known countryside. The Beaujolais wine villages, Oingt, Fleurie and Morgon among them, lie 45 to 70 minutes north, and the medieval hilltop village of Pérouges is about 40 minutes north-east. The northern Rhône vineyards of Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie and Tain-l'Hermitage are 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes south, and the Dombes lakes make an easy half day. The restaurants at Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or, just north of the city, are a regular evening booking.

Entry rules for non-EU visitors
The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026, so non-EU travellers give fingerprints and a facial image at their first Schengen entry. No ETIAS approval is required for now, since the system has not gone live. Check Travel to Europe before travelling. International arrivals include 60 minutes of waiting from the actual landing.
