Add a flight or train number for pickups at Baiyun or at Guangzhou South. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN): terminals and pickup

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is in Baiyun and Huadu districts, roughly 28 km north of the old city centre. It now operates three terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and Terminal 3, which opened on 30 October 2025 along with a fifth runway. Airlines have been reallocated between terminals, so check your ticket for the terminal and allow for the walk from the gate. After customs, follow the signs for pre-booked cars; your confirmation gives the exact pickup zone for your terminal.

The Airport Expressway and the ring roads carry most traffic. Weekday peaks, rain and fair days stretch the upper ends of those ranges.

Canton Fair transport: how to plan Pazhou

The China Import and Export Fair, known as the Canton Fair, is held twice a year at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Pazhou, Haizhu District, on the south bank of the Pearl River. The spring session usually runs from mid-April into early May and the autumn session from mid-October into early November, each split into three phases of about five days by product category. Dates and phase lists are published on the official Canton Fair site.

During the fair, hotels across Tianhe and Haizhu fill, and the roads around Yuejiang Road and the complex's entrances slow sharply at opening and closing times. Practical advice from how these weeks usually run:

• Book the evening return in advance. The halls empty at once, and taxi and ride-hail queues get long. A fixed-time pickup at a named gate is far easier.
• Name your hall area. The complex has Areas A, B, C and D. Tell us which entrance you will use so the chauffeur waits on the right side.
• Consider hourly booking if you are visiting suppliers after the fair or moving between Pazhou and factories in Foshan, Dongguan or Zhongshan.
• Leave margin for flights. On the last day of a phase, allow at least 75 minutes from Pazhou to Baiyun.

Which vehicle should I book in Guangzhou?

Details are on the fleet. Each affiliate vehicle is four model years old or younger, and Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Bentley are accepted up to seven.

Guangzhou's districts and landmark hotels

Tianhe is the modern business centre, and Zhujiang New Town within it holds the CTF Finance Centre, Guangzhou International Finance Center, the Guangzhou Opera House and Huacheng Square. Hotels include Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou in the IFC tower, Rosewood Guangzhou in the CTF Finance Centre, The Ritz-Carlton Guangzhou and Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou. Across the river, Haizhu has the Canton Tower and Pazhou, with hotels near the fair such as Langham Place Guangzhou. Yuexiu is the old administrative core around Beijing Road and Yuexiu Park. Liwan includes Shamian Island, with the White Swan Hotel on the river, plus the traditional Xiguan streets. Baiyun and Huadu cover the north and the airport, and Panyu and Nansha stretch south toward the estuary.

Venues include Tianhe Sports Center, the Guangzhou International Sports Arena, the Guangzhou Opera House and the Baiyun International Convention Center. Chauffeurs can stop only at legal bays outside most towers and malls, so your confirmation may name a specific door.

Rail stations: Guangzhou South and the others

Guangzhou South in Panyu is the main high-speed hub, with trains to Shenzhen, Hong Kong West Kowloon, Changsha, Wuhan, Beijing and Guilin. It is big, so give us the train number and the chauffeur meets you at the designated pickup area; the 15-minute waiting rule runs from the scheduled arrival. Guangzhou East in Tianhe serves many Shenzhen trains. Guangzhou Station in Yuexiu handles conventional lines, Guangzhou Baiyun Station is a newer hub north of the centre, and Guangzhou North in Huadu is near the airport. For rail to Hong Kong, trains from Guangzhou South reach West Kowloon in about an hour, with joint immigration at the Hong Kong end.

Nansha port and cruise calls

• January or February: Chinese New Year and its flower fairs; the weeks before the holiday bring very heavy departures.
• Mid-April to early May: Canton Fair spring session in Pazhou.
• Around 1 May: Labour Day holiday, busy roads out of the city.
• Early October: National Day Golden Week.
• Mid-October to early November: Canton Fair autumn session.
• November: the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, usually at the fair complex.
• December: the Guangzhou Marathon, with road closures in Tianhe and Haizhu.

Intercity transfers from Guangzhou

Local driving rules and traffic

China drives on the right. Guangzhou limits vehicles registered outside the city on many roads within its restricted zone, on a rotating schedule, which is why local affiliates with Guangzhou plates handle city driving. Expressway tolls are electronic. The city is dense with cameras; chauffeurs stop only where it is legal. Heavy rain is common from April to September, and typhoons can arrive in summer and early autumn. Congestion peaks around 07:30 to 09:30 and 17:30 to 19:30 on weekdays, and on Friday evenings before holidays.

Visa and entry notes for 2026

Arrivals at Baiyun need a Chinese visa unless their nationality is covered by an exemption. In 2026, citizens of more than 40 countries can stay up to 30 days visa-free under China's unilateral scheme, which currently runs to 31 December 2026. Nationals of 57 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, can use the 240-hour visa-free transit when travelling on to a third country or region; Guangzhou is one of the designated ports. Tips for a first business trip to Guangzhou

A few practical points make the first visit easier. Mobile payment apps dominate daily spending, although international cards now work at more hotels and larger shops; your chauffeured fare is settled at booking, so nothing is paid in the car. Many hotels print the Chinese address on a card at reception, which is worth photographing for any trip you book later. Cantonese is the local language and Mandarin is universal, so a translation app helps with factory visits. Samples and catalogues collected at Pazhou add up quickly, and an executive SUV or van has room for boxes that a sedan does not. Finally, many supplier offices sit in industrial parks where the main gate and the reception building are several hundred metres apart; add the building number and a contact phone number to the booking notes so the chauffeur can call ahead and drive to the right door.

More than 72 hours before pickup, there is no charge. At 72 hours or less, 10% of the fare applies; at 48 hours or less, 50%; at 24 hours or less or for a no-show, 100%. For Canton Fair weeks, booking early matters more than usual because local capacity is stretched.
