Which airport serves Lugano?
Lugano's own airport at Agno has little or no scheduled airline service, so almost everyone flies into Milan or Zurich and drives. Malpensa is the closest major hub.

At Malpensa, check which terminal your flight uses: Terminal 1 handles most airlines and Terminal 2 serves easyJet. Standard pickup is at the designated area for pre-booked cars; a meet and greet in the arrivals hall is an add-on offered in selected locations. Business jets often land at Linate's private aviation terminal or at Agno.
Booking a Lugano transfer

Crossing the Italian-Swiss border
Both Italy and Switzerland are in the Schengen area, so there is normally no passport check at Chiasso-Brogeda or Stabio. Switzerland is outside the EU customs union, though, and customs officers do stop vehicles, so carry your passport and declare goods above the Swiss allowances. Anyone reclaiming Italian VAT on purchases should have the export forms dealt with before leaving Italy. Non-EU travellers arriving at Malpensa are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System at Italian passport control, fully operational since April 2026; ETIAS has not launched yet, and any start date will appear on the EU travel site.
The Gotthard route from Zurich
From Zurich the A2 runs south past Lucerne to the 17 km Gotthard road tunnel, a single tube with one lane each way. It is quick on a weekday but queues form at Easter, Ascension, Whitsun and summer Saturdays, sometimes for hours. On those days the chauffeur may take the San Bernardino route or advise a different departure time. Trains through the Gotthard Base Tunnel link Zurich and Lugano in about two hours, a good option for light travellers; timetables are on SBB.
Lugano districts and the business centre
The city centre runs along the lake from Paradiso in the south to Cassarate and Castagnola in the east. Via Nassa, with its arcades and luxury shops, and the Piazza della Riforma form the core, and many private banks, wealth managers and commodity traders have offices in these streets. LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura, the arts centre on the lakefront, hosts concerts and exhibitions. Hotels used by business visitors include the Villa Castagnola and Hotel Splendide Royal on the lakefront and The View Lugano above Paradiso. The railway station sits on the hill above the centre, linked by a funicular; we collect there on request.

- Lake Como: Cernobbio and Como in 30 to 45 minutes, Bellagio in about 1 h 15.
- Milan city centre: 1 to 1.5 hours; the Area C charge applies in the centre and is billed at actual cost and added to your booking when the route enters it.
- Locarno and Ascona: 40 to 50 minutes.
- St. Moritz: about 2.5 hours via Chiavenna and the Maloja Pass.

Driving realities in Ticino
Driving is on the right on both sides of the border. The Swiss section of the A2 through Ticino is busy at morning and evening peaks, largely because tens of thousands of cross-border workers commute from Italy each day, so a Malpensa run timed for 8:00 can take longer than one at 10:00. Swiss speed cameras are strict and the chauffeur drives to the limit, which keeps the timings in the table honest. In Lugano itself, the lakefront road and the streets around the centre are narrow and some are pedestrian, so drops for Via Nassa usually happen at the Piazza della Riforma edge or at the hotel entrance.
On the Italian side, the A8 and A9 motorways are tolled. Milan's Area C congestion charge applies inside the historic centre on weekdays, and a drop there has the charge passed on at its actual cost as an addition to your booking.
Weddings, villas and lake occasions

Standard Sedans suit one or two passengers on the Malpensa run. Executive SUVs handle luggage and the Gotthard in winter. Standard Black SUVs and Sprinter Vans take teams to a lakeside offsite, and Rolls-Royce, Maybach or Bentley models are available through partners for weddings and special occasions. Cancellation rules
Cancelling more than 72 hours before pickup is free. After that, 10% is charged at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show. Fare contents are explained on rates.
