Kelowna International Airport (YLW)
YLW is about 15 km north of downtown on Highway 97, next to the UBC Okanagan campus. The terminal has been expanding: a new boarding hall and screening checkpoint opened in January 2026, with work continuing through the year, so follow current signage. Downtown, the waterfront and where visitors stay
Downtown Kelowna faces Okanagan Lake around City Park, the Sails sculpture and Waterfront Park. The Delta Hotels Grand Okanagan Resort sits on the lakeshore beside Prospera Place, home of the Kelowna Rockets hockey team from autumn to spring. The Hotel Eldorado is south of downtown on Lakeshore Road, and the Pandosy Village district holds cafés and boutiques. Across the lake, West Kelowna has its own resorts among the vineyards. Mountain passes and winter tire rules
British Columbia requires winter tires or chains on most Interior highways, including the Okanagan Connector, the Coquihalla and Highway 33 to Big White, from 1 October to 31 March, and until 30 April on some routes. The Coquihalla summit can close in storms; conditions and closures are on DriveBC. In summer, wildfire smoke and occasional highway closures can affect travel.
