Oakville is unusual in the GTA because it sits between two commercial airports. Toronto Pearson handles most flights. John C. Munro Hamilton International (YHM) is about 45 km west and mainly serves low-cost and seasonal routes. At Pearson, the standard service is curbside at the designated pre-arranged pickup area of Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, where you check in and the chauffeur is called forward. QEW, 403 or 407: how the chauffeur chooses
The QEW is the direct lakeshore route to Toronto but is often jammed eastbound in the morning between Trafalgar Road and the Humber. Highway 403 cuts north-east toward Mississauga and Pearson, and the 407 ETR north of the town is tolled electronically and usually freer at peak times. Downtown Oakville, Bronte and the lakeshore
Downtown Oakville along Lakeshore Road East has independent shops, restaurants and the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, with Oakville Harbour at the mouth of Sixteen Mile Creek. To the west, Bronte Village has its own harbour and marina, and Kerr Village runs along Kerr Street between them. Trains: GO and VIA at Oakville station
Oakville GO station, next to Trafalgar Road, is on the Lakeshore West line to Union Station and is also a stop for VIA Rail trains between Toronto, Niagara and Windsor. Bronte and Appleby are GO stations to the west. A car is handy for connecting to an early train or to Toronto Union Station for a longer rail trip.
Day trips from Oakville

Timing an early flight from Oakville
Pearson recommends arriving three hours before an international or US departure, and US-bound passengers clear US preclearance at Pearson after security, which adds a second queue. From Oakville that usually means a pickup about three and a half hours before a transatlantic flight, and two and a half hours before a domestic one. The QEW and 403 are quiet before 6 a.m., so the drive itself is short; the margin is for check-in and security. In winter, lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario can make the QEW slow near Burlington and Oakville, and the chauffeur leaves earlier if the forecast is poor. You can move the pickup time in your booking if the airline changes the schedule.
For arrivals, you do not need to call when you land. The chauffeur follows the flight and is in the staging area when you check in at the pre-arranged services point, and the desk in Toronto answers around the clock if bags are lost or you are held at customs.
