Union Station and VIA Rail

Winnipeg's Union Station on Main Street, a block from The Forks, is a stop for VIA Rail's Canadian between Toronto and Vancouver, and the starting point for the train to Churchill on Hudson Bay. Trains run a few days a week and can arrive hours late, so book the pickup with the train number and the chauffeur is timed to the actual arrival reported by VIA Rail. Driving in a prairie winter

Winnipeg winters regularly reach minus 30 degrees Celsius, with blowing snow on open highways outside the Perimeter. Snowfall is lighter than in eastern Canada, but wind chill and drifting close rural roads, and vehicles carry winter kits. Traffic drives on the right, there are no toll roads, and the Perimeter Highway (Routes 100 and 101) rings the city. Spring can bring flooding on the Red River that closes some roads south of the city. The chauffeur tells you before departure if a route looks doubtful.
